PHOTOS of the WEEK- Split Stingray and Last Dance

It's been a whirlwind both on the site and personally for the last couple of weeks, with record traffic on the Palm Springs Automobilist Facebook Page and a lot of travel to car shows and museums back in the Midwest. This week's Photo of the Week came from our "Ten Chevrolets of the Century" series and is a GM Factory photo of an iconic Split-Window '63 Sting Ray in front of the Theme Building at LAX. Both are sparkling new in the photo and represent the promise of the future, sixties style. I knew it was going to be the Photo of the Week, if not the whole year, and you guys proved me right. I want to live in the picture, that is all. Tell George Jetson I'll race him for pinkslips.

In second place this week is "Last Dance," a shot of a beautifully restored 1961 De Soto that I captured at a car show in the resort town of Saugatuck, Michigan. The car was resplendent in Bahama Bronze with a black top and a three toned black, white and grey interior. It was just delicious and the show attendees agreed, selecting it as Best of Show. Quite a way to make an exit, '61 De Soto.

Stop by the Palm Springs Automobilist Facebook Page for daily images and smart conversation with knowledgeable car enthusiasts from all over the globe. See you next week!

This is the EDSEL

A big Milestone this week on the Palm Springs Automobilist Facebook Page as we celebrated the 55th Anniversary of the launch of the Edsel. It was Sept. 4, 1957 when the Edsel made its much heralded debut, and never before had so many done so much with so tepid a result, But we love the Edsel madly, and put together a salute we called Les 24 Heures du Edsel- although it was actually 30 Heures long and the French was deliberately mistranslated. But it sounded like Les 24 Heures du Mans to us, except it wasn't- it was our marathon tribute to Edsel that was a lot of fun.

It wasn't our attempt to analyze what happened, I pretty well covered that when I pronounced the poor car as Ford's Murder Victim. But it was a day to celebrate the hype and hysteria that surrounded the newest and briefest addition to the Ford Family of Fine Cars.

Here are some of the images, in pretty much randomized order so that they can speak for themselves. But don't miss the Edsel Show restored video at the bottom and don't forget to check into the Palm Springs Automobilist Facebook Page for daily updates of images and fun. See you there!

PHOTO of the WEEK: Strike a Pose

It's been a busy week on the Palm Springs Automobilist Facebook Page. Over the weekend we debuted a new theme called "Strike a Pose" in which we assembled original period photography of people posing with their automobiles. Lots of great photos, ranging from a VW Van to twin sisters with a 300SL Mercedes, but by far and away the most popular photo was "Lady and the Buick," a smiling young woman who is so enchanted with her 1959 Buick that she dressed to match it.

Coming up in second place is another photo from our "Strike a Pose" Series that we call "Free Parking." For this picture a lovely couple who have no idea how to park their gleaming new 1967 Chrysler New Yorker hardtop pose beside it, which is proudly seen taking up four parking spaces at the Alpha- Beta. Note that this time the lady did not dress to match, choosing instead to explore the spectrum of lime, lemon and chartreuse.

Be sure and drop in at the Palm Springs Automobilist Facebook Page and strike your own pose, or just savor our daily array of new images and smart conversation. See you next week!
